It's hillarious.

But scarily that energy plan is close to what I'd do.

It's what some of the Dems and Repubs (who were willing to compromise) proposed a few weeks ago, but their ideas never passed.

But seriously, McCain NEVER should've used Britney and Hilton in his ad - he should've known it'd backfire.

It backfired?

That is sarcasm, right?

I think this is the first I have heard it "backfired."

"Backfire" may be too strong, but I don't think it looks good (or very Presidential) when he's getting into tussles with Paris Hilton, (and Hilton holding her own). His campaign acknowledged as much when they tried to refocus back on Obama in their response. Actually though, even responding to her is absurd.

He removed it and just starts out his latest ad with "is the biggest celebrity in the world..." without paris and britney.  IMO, it backfired.

I just read that she memorized all that - wow - even I couldn't do that that well.

What exactly does Hilton have to hold onto?  Her integrity?

I think it looks just fine.  The initial barrage of ads definitely moved the needle.

Going to bat against Hollywood has paid great dividends in the past, and merging Obama with "Hollywood" celebrity is a great strategy.  Look at how well it worked for Corker.

No.  The ad helped cut a strong Obama lead down to nothing.

This ad either a) intentionally helps McCain or b) unintentionally does. Hard to say at this point. Our local media is implying that this was done as a stunt to support McCain. Her "idea" is actually the idea supported by the GOP and McCain.

Mostly it "helps" the drilling position, but Obama had already shown his flexibility on drilling, so it's a fizzle.

I don't think it backfired. McCain's couple of weeks of negative ads, taken as a whole, have been moderately effective. This Paris Hilton web ad makes John McCain look like a joke among young people who already felt that way to begin with and were supporting Obama.

Why do people insist on believing that people are going to take away anything political from the Paris Hilton web short?  It will have as much effect on McCain's standing as a Saturday Night Live skit or a joke by Dave Letterman.
