So I just wanted to make a scenerio for fun involving two people from the forum that would be pitted aginst each other in an election for the Presidency.

The Republicans nominate Phil from the Keystone State choosing Inks from Michigan as his running mate. The Democrats nominate Lief from deep in the heart of Texas and he picks Meeker from Washington State. Who do you think would win and who would you vote for? From their views and behaviors gathered from around the forum...how would the issues come about and what would they make center stage....how would both candidates campaign? What would be their strategy..ect..ect.

Phil/Inks 349
Lief/Meeker 189

Sometimes the VP choice does matter and Inks puts them over the top. Wink

We're not that liberal.

And we could so take New Mexico and Colorado. We understand Western/Southwestern people, unlike the elitists Phil and Inks.

287-251, Lief.

I'll talk about the campaign later.

I disagree. Kansas will go for Lief as it did for Obama!

Well, if, in this scenario, I'm an elected official from Texas, and not just some guy from Texas, then I think we'd probably do pretty well in the west. Phil and Inks winning Michigan and Pennsylvania would make things complicated though.

I think you'd do well assuming you are an elected official from Texas but I don't think you'd win Texas or Montana.

The prospects of Lief winning any higher office than Mayor in the state of Texas are about as good as me winning an election in Iran. If he's actually in an office that's high enough for him to be considered for a run for the Presidency he must have left the state, no offence to Lief I think he'd be fine if he was, say, a Californian.

Not necessarily. He could get by on charisma and "getting things done". It's happened before.

No, I agree with you. It'd be pretty near impossible for your run-of-the-mill liberal Democrat to get elected in Texas. Maybe in 30 or 40 years... Tongue

Hmm, interesting. Phil/Inks would get obliterated out west, but if they could win their home states it wouldn't really matter.

He could win in TX-25, the only district in the state where a Democrat who is both white and liberal could win.  (There are plenty of districts that will elect someone who is either one or the other.)  Heck, he says he lives in Austin, so he's either in TX-25 or TX-21 and would be a short move away.

Of course, a House seat is hardly a good position to run for VP, but it's something.

I live in the TX-10 part of the city, unfortunately. Tongue
