Discuss.

My first thought is, who the **** plans to give a commencement speech at a specific institution 14 months in advance?  Don't they usually choose the speakers for these just a couple months before hand?  Second, I pretty much never read anything from the Weekly Standard, as I find their hardline neo-conservative viewpoint completely loathsome, but does anyone know if they have a previous record of getting exclusive and accurate scoops from high ranking military officials?  I assume Goldfarb is pretty well connected, not to mention Kristol.

I think he's the only wildcard that could upset the 2008 retreads if no drastic changes occur.  Everything about him almost seems TOO perfect.

I'd be interested to know what Republicans here think about this idea though.

My standard response...

If I have to choose between Romney, Huckabee, Palin and Petraeus, the latter has my support (even if he is half Dutch Tongue ).

And you can say that without knowing his positions on the issues, command of policy ideas, ability to broker compromises, whether he has effective communication skills, or his general ability to control Congress because  __________________

Because he isn't Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, or Mike Huckabee.  If he turns out to be totally pathetic as a candidate, then oh well.

I will certainly not be voting for General Betrayus!

I hope you are sarcastic about the whole "Betrayus" crap. He's the finest general probably in the world.

Ike was a fantastic president, and he warned of the "Military-industrial complex"

Out of Romney, Huckabee, and Palin. Petreus would be the best option. We Americans love our War Heroes.

What are Patraeus economic and social positions? With out more knowledge about what Patraeus stands for outside of Iraq there is no reason to be excited about his potential candidacy or to assume he would be any better than Palin.
