Pretty much the same, though I would prefer if that candidate not resort to protectionism in order to win votes.

Centrist (or, alternatively, moderate left or right), smart, experienced, non-joke, honest and trustworthy, relatively young.

In other words, no politicians are my ideal candidates.

-  A hair left of center on economic issues with a business mind, socially liberal but not ridiculous.  Fiscally conservative and a budget hawk.    Some DLCers would fit this

- Pro international trade, yet not selling our country down the drain.  All agreements must be reciprocal and with proper laws.  Won't cater to unions or big business.

-  In the generation between the Baby Boomers and the Greatest Generation.  Experienced, yet still understanding of younger generations.  I find most Baby Boomers to be selfish.

-  Tough on crime, militarily sound, but not overreaching.  Opposed to PATRIOT Act, but favors death penalty for brutal crimes.

Wonder who would fit the bill?  Joe Biden comes closest, but not exactly.

1. Good judgement on the fly.
2. Listens to opinions of those smarter than him.
3. Surrounds himself with experts.
4. Challenges the political status-quo.
5. Takes drastic measures.

I don't care if such a person is an 85 year old, atheist, Muslim, cross dressing woman with an addiction to heroin who is rude in public and is a poor drinking partner.

-Western (preferably from the coast or with some relation to the West (e.g. Obama and Hawaii)).
-Liberal: supports universal healthcare, gay marriage, human rights (end genocide, start talks between Tibet and China), pacifism, wants to balance budget, education funding
-Must have a strong stance on environmental issues: create "green-collar" jobs, invest in renewable energy, end dependence on oil, fund mass transit
-End corporate lobbying and tax cuts (esp. drug and oil companies)
-Willing to work with both parties and compromise
-Good education (brilliant ideas)
-Realistically Idealistic
-Open-minded
-Stands on views, but admits mistakes
-A good speaker (please no desk pounding...)
-A different kind of politician
