BREAKING NEWS:  waltermitty probably wont be voting the same way as his parents.

someone cantact ap and get that out on the wire!
when one of your parents becomes president, I'll care.

seriously, you don't think it would've been newsworthy if chelsea said she might vote mccain over obama?

I still don't think it would really be newsworthy.  Tongue

^^

regardless of who your parents are, why should  adult children vote the same way?

it is ridiculous.

hell, my father voted for perot...twice!

Most do. You get your values and political opinions from your parents. I was heavily influeced by my grandfather. My other is more an independent leaning Republican and my dad is a strong Republican. All the kids at my ritzy private school were Republican. Most of the girls would tell you they are voting for "whoever the Republican is." This was last year--my senior year.

Not really.

I love them to death, but they're different people than I am.  Not a single of my close friends or family members is not a Democrat--not one.  They're not without influence, but they're holders of ideas.  Being related to you, or friends with you, doesn't make someone's ideas more valuable.

Holding values/beliefs by tradition, popularity, filial piety, whatever, in my opinion, is weak.  Sorry.

it's not about that.  It's about family members of famous politicians behaving in a manner or having political views that are anathema to the politician.  Same reason people were interested in Billy Carter's antics or Cheney's gay daughter or whatever.

Not saying it's a serious or important story.  Just morbid curiousity factor, for the most part.

Maybe you didn't, but most people, especially teens, do. It's just a fact. I've read many studies citing that fact.

Now, I do differ from my parents on some things. My mom is anti-Iraq war and pro life, while I am pro choice and pro-Iraq war.

I don't really care what most teens do.  It's tempting to all of us, but it's irrational.

I have to say, I have always liked Chelsea Clinton and both Bush twins.  The Bush girls had a few bumps in the road but what kid hasn't?  The Gore, Kerry and Edwards offspring were also impressive.  Barack's little girls are adorable, but clearly too young to be really judged on anything.

I applaud Jenna Bush for two things.

1.  For being open-minded and independent from her parents.  And not afraid to say so.

2.  For reading.  She said, "I've been too busy with books".  I don't know if she's reading Camus or Nora Roberts, but who cares?  Reading is almost always a good endeavor and a great example to younger people who might be looking up to her.

If there's anything good I can say about George W. Bush (and it's hard for me to find anything), it's that he's obviously a wonderful husband and that he and his wife are devoted parents.
