Clinton hints at sharing ticket with Obama
"After her sensational victories in Texas and Ohio overnight Hillary Clinton this morning hinted at the possibility of sharing the Democratic ticket with Barack Obama — with her as the presidential candidate.

Asked on CBS's The Early Show whether she and Obama should be on the same ticket, Clinton said: "That may be where this is headed, but of course we have to decide who is on the top of ticket. I think the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me."

Hmmm, I don't know about this one. Clinton and Obama on the same ticket might be the best way to ensure the Democratic Party doesn't tear itself into shreds over this one, and it may well occur for solely that reason; but at the same time it would be a very uneasy affair. Can anyone really see Obama or Clinton willingly playing second fiddle to the other? It would be a repeat of JFK-LBJ, only tenfold. But we'll see.

Seeing as it's going to take a statistical miracle for her to win the nomination, I doubt it's going to happen...as she certainly wouldn't accept second fiddle. Her ego is far too massive.

Miracles happen, although in this case it will be just the opposite of a miracle.

Clinton/Obama - Yeah, that's possible.

Obama/Clinton - Not in this lifetime.

It's just the same, cheap attempt to lure potential Obama voters, as the only way they could both be on the same ticket would be with her on top and not him. Not to mention the fact she'll need him to even begin to repair the damage done to the party. Obama would be better served to stay in the Senate then in order to become more experienced in the eyes of the voter, even if it would lead to resentment by the party establishment.

Let me put it this way:

Together, Clinton and Obama totaled about 2,808,000 votes in the Texas primary. Compare that to Kerry/Edwards in 2004 when he got 2,833,000 votes.

Can you imagine what happens in November with a Clinton/Obama ticket? Gingrich may be right, a Clinton/Obama ticket may be unstoppable. Together, they will raise enormous amount of money and excite the Democratic Party is a way not seen in decades (or ever).

Hillary's first choice for VP is Obama.
Obama's first choice for VP is anyone but Hillary.

but isn't it the only way out of the misery?

i doubt that one of them can win the general election with their party torn apart.

Very unlikely.  If Obama agrees to be her VP, it ruins his platform on change all together if he were to try again in 2012.  The argument would hold true the other way around as well.

Hillary would do it as a ploy to keep the black voters happy and turning out (think 1988).  She doesn't care about the other Obama voters and quite frankly, shouldn't.

There's no reason for Obama to do it - the working-class/Hispanic problems he will have are not going to be remedied by a black man/white woman ticket.  In fact, they may worsen with that ticket.

Clinton wouldn't take the slot, and Obama wouldn't offer it.

Clinton would not want to offer it to Obama, and Obama wouldn't want to take it...Dean & Co. may convince them to go ahead with it for the sake of party unity if she wins on superdelegates...but I personally find it hard to envision Obama taking the VP slot at that point.

The problem with this argument is that we are not talking about some generic white woman politician -- we are talking Hillary Clinton.  And she has already abundantly shown her ability to win both working class and Hispanic voters.  Working class white women in particular are one of her very best demographics.  She has a strong, longstanding reputation within the Hispanic community and many working class people remember better economic times under the Clinton Administration.

Mark Ambinder said this about a joint ticket:

An offer-decline situation would probably be a nice show to put on for the voters, if nothing else.
