What do you think?

I suspect, as tough and as smart as she is, she'll be so bogged down by Congressional investigations, scandals and general resistance from those who so viscerally hate her, she won't get anything done.

Now if she had 60+ votes in the Senate and a comfortable majority in the House, that's another matter entirely.  But that's not gonna happen.

I think she can.  She seems to have the ability to put her opponents in a box.

No.  She will waste all of her capital on scandals.

When I saw the title, I thought:

Will Hillary Clinton Be Able to Govern by Securing and Keeping the Confidence of a Majority of MPs?

Turns out I was right. Tongue

She is coming to Washington to fight.  I say bring it on !!!  If it's a fight you want, it is a fight you'll get

No way, she will be a disaster.

She thinks she is smarter than everybody and will not listen to anybody

I think she might be able to govern... and maybe even do a good job at it... BUT...
          A.) I don't think she'll win and...
B.) There would be a lot of people who I don't think would be willing to WORK WITH HER...

Absolutely not. Half the country hates her, and she won't be able to get any of her agenda through congress. The Republicans will hate her and fight her tooth and nail every step of the way, on every piece of legislation, attack her viciously, and launch so many investigations, special counsels, and probes that we won't be able to keep track of them all. Not to mention that she will have pretty effectively alienated large parts of the CBC, the Progressive Caucus, and the Red State Dems by the tactics she would have used to win the nomination, and there aren't enough DLCers in the house for her to work with.

That never stopped Bush.

If she wins, she'll have won back many of the people you're talking about. It sort of depends on her margin of victory, of course, but basically I say yes.

The difference with Bush is that his party controlled both Houses of the legislature.  I assume Democratic control will continue under President Clinton, but how many Democrats will she have alienated during the primary?  Conservative Democrats already hated her.  Now, minority Democrats and some liberals are starting to.  And more than a few liberals are still pissed at her for kissing The Decider's ring on Iraq and Iran.

This is why I am supporting Obama.  I'd much rather have a President Dodd or Biden.  But they lost.  Edwards is out and Gore ain't in.  Obama has a better chance of getting things done, I think.

One thing I am certain of -- Hillary would make some brilliant proposals.  She's damn smart, very hard working and could do a very good job.  But just like Bill in his last year or two, she won't be permitted to without a veto-proof majority.  And she won't have that.

JS, why would the president need a veto-proof majority? Smiley

I think Clinton would be able to govern. She's under-estimated. Obama could be another Carter for all we know (ok, not quite...). I actually think none of the current candidates will have huge governing issues given the situation with congress and all.

I believe she can. It may be hard for the first year or so, but she will over come.

I always get amused when people say Hillary is very smart.  If she is so smart, why don't we have national health care from 1993-1994 as promised?  If she is so smart, why could she adjust in the next 6 years 1995-2000 to get national health care approved?  If she is so smart, how come Seniors would still be without prescription drug benefits like she tried to block?  If she is so smart, how can she be proposing an mandatory program if she becomes President where peoples wages will be garnished if they don't sign up?

I'll answer these questions.  She is judged smart by pseudo intellectuals and herself.  The same people who trash Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush as dummies.  They achieved their programs.  She had delivered 0 on her signature platform issue.  This isn't high school or college for who delivers the best theoretical paper or has the best and most test answers.  This is the real world and in that world, she cannot function because she believes she is so much smarter than us.  If we cannot accept her wisdom, nothing will get done until we honor her superior wisdom.

Hillary is a disaster who has not accomplished anything and is a huge polarizing force.

On the other side, McCain is only marginally better.

I agree with your view on Obama.  I think he will be able to govern, lead and get things done
