If Obama campaigns effectively and the Iraq situation gets worse, prompting voters to reject McCain's "permanent occupation" ideas...

(Whoops!  Shoulda shown Illinois at 60%)
Not a landslide, but a significant win.  However, if the status quo remains in Iraq or if things improve dramatically -- and of Obama really stumbles or a major scandal erupts...

Assuming things remain as they are in Iraq and Obama and McCain's campaign develop in a similar to way to how they have in the primaries...

You may be on to something.  Colorado could end up being 2008's Ohio or Florida.  Of course a lot of states are purpling these days.  Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Mexico, Wisconsin and Iowa always seem to toggle back and forth -- finishing with very thin margins.

New Hampshire seems pretty solidly D now, but a real bad D screwup could flip them back.

Virginia is trending D but I don't know if they will yet be D enough to swing it.  I think this could be the year, especially with Mark Warner on the ballot.

Yeah, Colorado looks like a major battlegrounds.  Ignore it at your peril, eh?

I think McCain pulls it out, although it is possible that Obama could take Florida, Colorado, or Ohio and win the election.

I voted for McCain though I hope he doesn't select Huckabee for VP.

This matchup could go either way. Though in this Election, I think Obama could narrowly pull off a victory over Senator McCain. In my mind, the Election will come down to Missouri (11 EV) and Ohio (20 EV). They could swing either way in this matchup.

Obviously McCain would win because of american racism.

The war is getting better, and Obama will be revealed for what he is: a message of hope, but an empty suit. McCain's appeal to independents gives him a comfortable win on election night against a man who would be better running in eight years.

I just can't see McCain win in this scenario. The Republican base would most likely not show up in good enough numbers and Obama would take away the independents that McCain would otherwise rely on to win. So basically it would be a sizable victory for Obama.

I don't think racism will work that well for McCain - more like this:

It would be very close, the mostly likely to result in a 2000/2004 result.

I have trouble seeing Obama beating McCain in Virginia.  Most polling I have seen shows that McCain is by far the strongest Republican in Virginia, and Obama is weaker than Clinton there.
