The Kansas City Star reports that wealthy Kansas businessman Greg Orman (D) has officially filed paperwork with the FEC to challenge current Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) in the upcoming election.

Orman has little name recognition in the state, but does have the ability to personally fund much of his campaign. However, Roberts, who has served in the Senate since 1996 after eight terms in the House, should prove a difficult candidate to unseat.

The good news is that, if the race by some miracle gets close (in Kansas, that means 25-30 points) then the candidate can waste his own money on the election, and not the DSCC's.

Roberts is the saner of the two Kansas senators.  He didn't even get a Democratic challenger in 2002.  He ain't goin' anywhere.

Roberts isn't actually all that popular... which means Orman might break 40%.
