Depends.
Someone who had connections to the mob?
Define "connections".
A scene kid running an emo record label?
Why not?
A person who had chartered several banks in third world countries solely for money laundering operations that would allow US citizens to gamble online?
No. (Well - people may change etc, but that's certainly not an advertisement.)
A person who was connected to an organization that ran a smuggling ring illegally trafficking alcohol to Muslim countries?
Still was? No.
A person who was connected to an organization that ran a smuggling ring illegally trafficking pornography to Muslim countries?
I don't care.
A person who had conducted book burnings?
The fact wouldn't matter to me - the reasons are likely to rule that person out, though.
Someone who owned a rental store and was known to specifically instruct his employees to rent violent movies, video games and porn to minors?
Lol. I don't care.
Strip club owner?
Probably not.
Someone who ran a child pornography ring?
No.
Sex tourist?
Not a major deal.
Arms dealer?
No.
Human smuggler?
Depends on the profits and conditions.

A former member of the Red Army Faction?
Depends.

Isn't the RAF classified as a terrorist organization in Germany? Have they even done anything notable since 1977?

They're long defunct, officially since 1998 but actually since around 1993. And they were much a factor in the years before that either. Lewis probably has more details.

Someone who owned a rental store and was known to specifically instruct his employees to rent violent movies, video games and porn to minors?
Lol. I don't care.

Isn't it true that in Germany it's actually illegal to have the equivalent of R-rated movies where minors can even get to them? Any places renting or selling them have to have them in some closed off area. Similar to porn sections here (although even those usually aren't by law, typically just so some prude stopping by won't get offended and throw a big fit)

This will suffice. All I want to add is that two members are still in prison, one of them in the prison I currently visit every week.

There is the so-called "index", on which (among other things - books, mags, even games) movies rated 18&up may be placed (theoretically, even other ones, as its a different body deciding. But they're not doing that o/c.) Things on the "index" may not be publicly advertised (which includes displayed for sale) where minors might see them. They may be sold under the counter where minors can go, though. It's a ridiculous law, obviously.

Addendum:
I was at the pub last night, and a - much older - lawyer friend of mine told me "You know who that guy over there is? That's Günter Sonnenberg." So I looked at the fiftyish guy with longish grey hair he was pointing out, and asked "Who's Günter Sonnenberg?" First I heard the name. And he answered "Oh right. You're much too young. That's the man who shot Siegfried Buback."
