There will never be a gay president. As homophobic as that sounds, I doubt that Americans would ever elect one.

I doubt we'll ever have an openly gay president.

I agree.  If we do, it won't be for a long, long time.

So not happening. Given your tendency towards RAPID ideological change/flipflopping I don't see you getting elected in any office.

I doubt we'll ever have an openly gay president.

100 years ago, nobody would have thought we'd be this close to having an openly black or an openly female president.

Openly black?? Openly female?? LOL

I don't think I've ever posted in this thread. None of them will ever become President, but I think Crist would do a great job (so would Kolbe, actually).

Am I the only one who finds it offensive that John Edwards is considered Gay, when he has a wife who was cancer, and two kids.

Actually, believe it or not, that's not entirely unheard of.  Many people have hid African ancestry in the past.  Certainly there have been instances of women hiding their sex as well.

Actually, interesting story... the man who discovered DNA just had his DNA mapped.  He has spent much of his career saving that there are clear markers in DNA that justify, scientifically, that blacks are inferior, genetically.  So turns out that he himself has several African markers in his DNA, indicating a black great-great grandparent.

You guys have already had one, that being 15th President of the United States James Buchanan. Americans won't elect an openly Gay President for atleast another 30 to 40 years, though you could possibly elect a President that is but you wouldn't know. Until the media pounces on a rumor he's gay then look at Jim McGreevey.

German women think a gay chancellor is OK by 83-15 and men by 75-23. In the former West-German states the acceptance is at 87%, in the former East-German states it stands at 77%.

Surprising, considering the levels of religion in each.

Religion plays an incredibly small role in European politics as a whole.

More importantly, atheists in East Germany tend to be the unreformed communists, who are also very socially intolerant.
"Unreformed communists"? Lol.

Hey, not all of them, but who would you say votes for Die Linkspartei? Socially conservative atheists are well-documented in the vast majority of former communist states, and East Germany is no exception.
Yeah, but they vote CDU. On most issues including what you#d call social issues, Linkspartei voters (stress on voters) actually hold the *center* in East Germany... weird as it sounds. There are exceptions, mind. One well documented one being issues of war and peace, with Linke support strongly pacifist.

Why in the name of common sense do you have David Drier and John Edwards on your list?

By the way, America will never elect an openly gay President.

Drier was outed in 2004. His chief of staff pretty much admitted to being his lover, though Drier himself has never commented.

Before Australia has an openly non-het PM/President.

That said, I wouldn't be too surprised if we get a non-het governor-general within the next two appointments. We already have a gay high court judge, Michael Kirby, and Bob Brown, the leader of the third largest party, the greens, is in a long-term relationship with a man.
