A brief summary of the facts:
A.He brought a hollowed out book that had a box cutter in it to the airport and tried to get on the plane with it.  You don't do that accident.  If you own a book that you hollowed out and normally keep your pot in, you know that book.  You don't accidentally put it in your carry on luggage.
B.There wasn't pot in the hollowed out book, there was a weapon.  A type of weapon used by terrorists during a fairly well known terrorist attack a couple of years ago.
C.He had assorted other books of a Muslim nature (note:they weren't cut up)
D.He's a wannabe rapper

The facts lead me to the conclusion that he is retarded and did this all on purpose so he'd get his name in the paper and get invited onto TV shows.  Am I wrong?

The fact that he was arrested rather than forced to unpack the box cutter proves that you do not live in a free country. Apart from that, I have no idea. Might be.

How's that again?  A person isn't "free" to fly on somebody elses airplane.

I'm going with option 2

What do you mean?

(I was for some freggin reason thinking an airline had something to do with this, but they don't.  I didn't need to defend them there....not that I like the airline industry, I don't.  But arresting a guy for trying to bring a dangerous tool onto an airplane in a carved out book is very much reason to arrest somebody.  Thinking that way (or defending the airlines right of refusal) doesn't make me unlibertarian.)

Terrortarded has a nice ring.

He's not dumb!  He's terrortarded!!

It would have been different had the box cutter simply been in the backpack.  The fact that it was in a hollowed out book shows intent to hide it.

Common sense is the divider between safety and tyranny/oppression.

But does that mean that he deserves to get 10 years? And you know probably know that even people who didn't conceal like this guy have been treated similary.

Maybe, but that wouldn't be up to me unless I was on his jury.

Of course.  We let the govt be in charge of security, what did you expect to happen?  But this guy wasn't mistreated.  The TSA actually did their jobs here.
