In my view, it's a C+. He certainly sounded more vigorous than in his debate performance, but still not as energetic as he used to. It's not likely to sway the voters who will decide this election, though, which is unforunate.

A 5 minute speech is irrelevant. That said, I wish he did worse so that the pressure to replace him would continue, since I already feel it tapering out.

Gave him a C. I assume we were supposed to grade it objectively compared to your average midlist political event response.

You guys are literally at the point of hoping a 5 minute rehearsed, scripted, teleprompter speech with no questions will save him? The bar has been rendered that?

I mean Jesus. Come on now. Even second term Reagan spoke more to the press than that.

He read off a teleprompter for five minutes and took no questions. This demonstrates nothing.

If there’s a few polls on the level of the St. Anselm poll it will reignite talk. The surprisingly sparse polling the last few days has greatly aided Biden.

Yeah I think national polls or swing state polls (especially in the rust belt) will be the ones that truly matter.

It has only been a few days. You can just plop a poll in the field a day later from nothing with no funding.

Tomorrow will be a big day for polls, and possibly Thursday.

I’m trying to avoid hearing about any polls over the next few weeks.

I'd say that polls right before Trump's sentencing, say July 8/9 will be the most informative. So not this Tuesday but next Tuesday.

The speech itself was fine.

But the fact that he took 0 questions and immediately walked away is telling.

If people were genuinely doubting for very clear reason the mental acuity of Barack Obama or Bill Clinton, their teams would absolutely have made sure they were put out there in front of the public until it was obvious to everyone that their mental acuity was fine.

It would be political malpractice to do otherwise. The only possible conclusion we can draw from that, then, is that Biden did not answer questions because he can't. That's legitimately frightening.

Immediately after the debate, while I was worried about 3-4 years into the future, I thought Biden was probably still ok to do the job now. But at this point, I am not so sure.

It really seems like the White House Staff has been covering up just how bad it is.

Go look at YouTube one day. Bill Clinton has had his library uploading his appearances. The man was in public it seemed daily, taking questions from the press or even from regular citizens on small issues, large ones, making statements. He made sure he was insanely visible.

I don’t even know if Obama was as visible. Seriously go check Bill’s YouTube.

That Biden is so hidden away - he’s had the lowest number of pressers since Reagan’s second term - is very telling. It kind of answers the question of “can he do it?”, because if he could do it, he would have been and would be now.

But even on this monumentous matter - he gives a 5 min rehearsed statement, takes no questions, and shambles off
