Looking at the results, I'm a little dismayed that so many state legislative seats went uncontested. No matter how hopeless the district is, I'm of the conviction that the Democrats and Republicans should run candidates. They don't, of course, have to target their energies or channel their resources into them but it's about giving voters a choice
Ah, but the Democrats and Republicans drew the Virginia legislature districts with the express aim of denying voters a choice.
Which may actually be different this time around, because for the first time, well, ever, each party controls one of the houses, so they'll have to hammer out something that's not gerrymandered for one party's benefit.
So? They'll just hammer out something to benefit all the incumbents. Look at Illinois. New Jersey. California.
