Think it would be better to stay at least somewhat on topic.

Holy crap, the regime is literally kidnapping and murdering young teenage girls. I seriously teared up some watching this...I have to believe that if there is any justice whatsoever left in our twisted timeline... That the ayatollah's days are numbered.

Woman, Life, Freedom indeed, both in Iran and the USA.

This regime is an example of why we always have to be skeptical of who leftists throw there support behind, as they did, and continue to do, for Ruhollah Khomenei.

I don't think the regime can beat and shoot its way out of this now. We may be seeing the beginning of the end for the Islamic Republic.

That is brutal. I teared up watching this video as well. Hopefully, when Iran becomes a democracy, I will be able to travel there and meet a sweet and kind Iranian woman who will marry me.

Yankee zip up!

Anyway, the mods need to merge this thread with the already made Near East megathread given how interconnected all of these developments are

For those of you who (rightfully) want to cut ties with Saudi Arabia, the best way to do it might well be a democratic, US/Western-aligned Iran to take its place.

Just saying.

And if we have to give Iran a little nudge to make that happen... Well, I'm all for it. Better for the people and the world.

A popularly supported government taking over from the house of Saud will almost surely NOT be pro-western. Just saying.

It's worth mentioning that while many Islamist revolutionaries in Iran were clearly influenced by Marxism and leftism ~40 years ago, the "left-wing" of the revolution, hilariously enough, evolved into being its liberal reformist wing. To give an example, Mousavi's hero was Che Guevara and he was part of an "Islamic socialist" paramilitary organization. He, in many respects, was an architect of the IRI regime but, later in life, he, more or less, led a revolutionary movement to overthrow it.

By and large, supposed "moderates" in government like Hassan Rouhani are actually arch-conservatives. The old "left" of the revolution, which was once seen as being more radical, is dead. Various populist figures like Ahmadinejad, who were always seen as being radical, have evolved. Support for the government is near non-existent because any old impulses to redistribute income from Tehran to the rural hinterland is gone. Instead, we have a government committed to ultra-conservative social control and without any "popular" impulses. Any of the old "democratic" or "republican" aspects of Islamic Democracy are dead, have been dead.

This is all to say that while there was once a bit of truth to the idea of the Islamic Republic of Iran as at least being influenced by socialism while also being near-genocidal against actual socialists, this is about its history. In its present, all hints of this past are gone. Its revolutionary energy is gone, its popular energy is gone and all that is left is cruel repression.

Kinda like China, no?
Politically, sure? (Although a lot of the early CCP leadership like Deng wasn’t primarily driven by Marxism) Economically or socially, it’s less clear.

And that’s a good thing

Anyway, there are weapons found in Iranian Azarbaycan that were clearly delivered through the RoA. Outside of Pakistan (unintentionally), Turkey, Kuwait, and Iraq—the state sponsoring of weapons flow is diversifying. Meh, good arms to have floating no matter the purpose of usage and in the current hands of whomever.

You know, this whole thread really reveals just how so many Atlas posters, despite how they love to ramble on about how this or that county voted in the 1892 election, really do not understand how politics, at a fundamental level, works.

One way of thinking about is it this:

A yelling woman in a Twitter video may look powerful, but is she more powerful than one of the worlds most powerful militaries that is hundreds of thousands of men strong, that will do anything to hold onto their power?

No?

Then, in a disagreement between her and said military, she will lose.

End of story.

One yelling woman will lose in such a confrontation, yes.

But millions of them may not.

And we only have to look at Iran for an example of this sort of thing within living memory - it remains a tragedy that the anti-regime forces weren't quite able to reach the "critical mass" they did in 1979.

Oh forgive us for having the slightest iota of hope the innocent can escape the shackles of a dystopian misogynistic regime.

The whole reason 1979 was because the armed forces that refused to stand down backed the revolution, not the government. As long as that is not the case here, any sort of rebellion will be crushed, every single time.

An odious post that you should be quite ashamed of making.

It is 100% factually accurate.
