Question: Which of these unfinished BBB priorities should Democrats NOT prioritize?
#1
minimum wage hike

#2
paid leave

#3
more on reigning in pharmaceutical companies (IRA could only apply to Medicare to get around 60-vote cloture)

#4
more on reigning in health insurance companies (like how they originally hoped to force Medicare to offer dental/vision/hearing too) -- and there's the evergreen hope for a public option

#5
more support to childcare & caregivers

#6
more support for PreK, community colleges, and other school programming

#7
lift the cap for Social Security, and increase its benefits

Which of these unfinished BBB priorities should Democrats NOT prioritize?

These are things that the Biden Administration actually tried to do, which only failed due to Manchin/Sinema and a united GOP caucus in the Senate:
* minimum wage hike
* paid leave
* more on reigning in pharmaceutical companies (IRA could only apply to Medicare to get around 60-vote cloture)
* more on reigning in health insurance companies (like how they originally hoped to force Medicare to offer dental/vision/hearing too) -- and there's the evergreen hope for a public option
* more support to childcare & caregivers
* more support for PreK, community colleges, and other school programming
* lift the cap for Social Security, and increase its benefits

You forgot a NOTA option (meaning they should focus on all of them).

Prioritize the pieces that are more helpful to families with working adults and young children. De-prioririze the rest, especially Social Security expansion, where the standard should be protecting benefits, not raising them.

None, these are all popular policies that the US needs to do at some point

Instead of compromising to appease DINOs, we should elect more actual Democrats

I wonder what the opposition is to paid leave.

Most large companies already offer paid family leave. And In California, smaller companies actually love the paid leave program here, because they can compete better with those larger companies for talent.

And it's not a mandate. It's a payroll tax, a social insurance system.

I wonder why so many voted minimum wage and social security... those seem like no-brainers right now, and be popular for folks most hit by inflation (working people and seniors).

The minimum wage increase. Doubling the minimum wage in certain areas would be an inflationary disaster.

#1 and#7, with #6 as an honorable mention. States, as well as even businesses themselves are already raising wages on their own, and I think it would be wiser to address/prioritize the cost of living itself, housing and food costs in particular, over raising the minimum wage at this time. As for #7 I agree with Electric Circus that protecting Social Security benefits should be the priority right now, not expanding them.

While I don't like minimum wage much as a concept, $15 minimum wage likely won't really cause much issues at all in today's economy, especially if done over a period of 3 years. Even in rural areas, the 25%+ cumulative inflation since 2020 has brought prices and wags up a lot.

$15 minimum wage as a proposal now is very different from 2016.

#6 and #7. Pre-K has been shown to not benefit children. Social security payments are capped, so contributions should be too. Increasing Social Security payments would make the program even less solvent.

Prek helps parents, that makes it beneficial in and of itself. When both parents can work and not get destroyed on child care that helps raise people up.

They probably are looking at more of a governance standpoint than an electoral standpoint.

The majority of this site is not people who will be working minimum wage jobs (other than while in college) and arent that close to social security age.

That's day care, which I have nothing against.
