HP, and this is coming from someone who would have supported an independent Chechnya then. There were no good actors in that dispute.

Why? As far as I can tell he seems like he has always wanted what is best for his people (freedom) and played the best hand he could against a racist and imperialist (not to mention genocidal) Putin/Yeltsin regime on one side and jihadists on the other.
