People keep saying New Jersey without realizing that half of the battle is a state actually WANTING to go early. New Jersey is now in its 3rd cycle in a row of being the last state in the nation in the primaries on the first Tuesday in June. Why? Because New Jersey holds its House and Senate primaries the same day and doesn't want to be on the hook for paying for two different primaries.

Similarly, Illinois also has its state and local primaries on the same day as its Presidential, third Tuesday in March. Illinois doesn't want to hold a separate Presidential primary and be on the hook for paying for it, and also doesn't want to have its state and local primaries in freaking January.

I feel like no one considers the state governments when talking about what the primary schedules are and just talk about the DNC (and the RNC to a lesser extent but people ignore even it and the fact that the GOP isn't interested in moving certain states forward). States can and do just say no to moving forward. As I said earlier in this thread, the DNC offered Georgia an early state slot in this cycle but the RNC didn't and would impose penalties on Georgia for skipping in line. The GOP state government of Georgia doesn't give a s**t about when its Democratic primary is but DOES care about its GOP primary so they said thanks but no thanks and left their primary where it was.

It'd be really helpful if people would consider the DNC, RNC, and state governments are all actors here and the DNC can't compel states to move that don't want to and can only do penalties and rewards as incentives.

Both Trumpers and woke blue hair kids don't "actually" care about any issue. Politics is entirely personal to them and their whole reaction is just based on what they think of you personally.

I don't think any state should go first. But if I had to pick a state, Michigan is great. It was moved up to Feb 27 for a reason.

Lots of unions. Diverse. White, Black, Hispanic, Arab, Indian etc. Urban, suburban, small town, rural.

Its also a critical swing state. And both progressives and moderates have a chance, unlike South Carolina.
