Richard Moore, a two-term North Carolina state treasurer and former secretary of crime control, "officially announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for governor Tuesday," reports the News and Observer.
Moore "already has raised $2.6 million for his campaign coffers." He is "expected to face Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue in the Democratic primary."
http://politicalinsider.com/2007/05/moore_to_run_for_governor.htmlI wish one of these two would avoid a divisive Democratic Primary for Governor and run for the Senate instead, but that obviously is very unlikely. Democrats have held the Governor's Mansion since 1992, but are stronger statewide than Republicans and seem to have a good chance to retain it going into 2008.
