Hello. It's been almost six years since I registered for this site, and in the intervening time I have made 10,000 posts. To celebrate this momentous occasion, here's another AMA.

There are a few questions I expect to come up early on, so I'll address them up front:

"Why didn't you leave the forum when you said you would?"

I was being facetious. Yes, I could have used a tone tag, but in that moment I just wanted to dunk on Woody.

Why are you so pessimistic?

I like to set my expectations low so that I'm not disappointed. I saw that in one of the "opinion of SnowLabrador" threads, someone speculated that I had OCD. I can confirm that this is the case. I'm not excusing some of my predictions, but sometimes I overreact to things.

Anything else is fair game. So ask away!

The "snow" comes from my enjoyment of skiing. It's my favorite sport and I've been doing it since age 6. I've done a lot of types of skiing, ranging from cross-country to backcountry to paraskiing. That last one was quite a thrill.

The "lab" comes from my IRL initials, LAB. Not many people have initials that spell a word, but I do. I think that's cool. I then combined it with the name of a dog, since my younger sister adores dogs. I actually have a Bouvier des Flanders in real life, not a labrador.

What would your reaction be if by some chance Democrats get a trifecta for the 119th Congress?

I’d be thrilled and very relieved.

Would it be fair to say that if you had been around in 1948, you would have been constantly declaring that Thomas Dewey was all but certain to be elected President that year?

Honestly probably. I'm just a pessimist by nature.

Is it common for a person to be banned from making threads for 6 months on a first offense / first infraction, without any prior warnings?

What would it take for you to be slightly less of a doomer? I don’t mean predicting success for Democrats, simply predicting more modest results for Republicans or admitting to not being sure that Republicans will win big? I think people would have less of a problem with you if you stated your predictions as if there is a possibility that you could be wrong. Also, no need to make more threads involving predictions, there are already plenty of those that you can post in.

I’ll also mention that predicting bad things will happen really doesn’t make it better. The disappointment is still there if things go badly and if you’re dreading every moment until something happens, you won’t even really get to enjoy something good happening. It’s best to try to accept that things are always uncertain and setting our expectations won’t have an impact on the results unless it’s something we have direct control over.

Evidence that Biden is in better shape than it appears.

I haven't seen a ton of those. I don't watch a lot of movies in general, simply because I don't have the attention span necessary for that activity.

It's 2030 and you are up against Riverwalk in the Massachusetts gubernatorial election. How do you campaign?

I go scorched-Earth on them, running a campaign based on fear. It's worked so well for the GOP for so long, after all.
