I argued abortion in cases of rape should be legal in developing countries with high rates of violence against women, and two people argued civil wars and crime do not justify abortion. The original replier wrote:

"If a warlord/criminal rapes and murders a woman on the same night, she’s dead before he even knows she’s pregnant. So, clearly, abortion would not have saved her life.

In the case of raping her repeatedly over time, I doubt a warlord/criminal would say, “I see you are pregnant! If you murder your child (abortion), I won’t murder you.” That implies that he wants to rape that one, specific woman multiple times. She’d have to be his mistress, which is an incredibly small percentage of cases. (Some *may* even say, “Oh good! Give me a son to carry on my glorious legacy!”)

Most wartime rapes are from soldiers going through villages. They don’t have specific targets. They’ll rape any woman. Let’s say they capture one and repeatedly rape her over many months. If she gets pregnant, they’re not going to get her an abortion so they can keep using her specifically. They’ll either kill her immediately or toss her aside. She’s not *that* valuable to them. From their perspective, there’s always someone else they can take and use. So, abortion would still not save her life.

Yes, women and babies are murdered, whether in rape/murder, war, etc. But that’s not an argument for abortion."

I conceded the debate.

No offense but arguing for a moderate position on a pro-life forum probably won't end up working in your favor. If it upsets you, just lurk. You've already mentioned that you found Reddit toxic, so just find the communities that interest you/have treated you well and spend your time there.

Politics is never worth getting angry about in my view. And I, like everyone else, do get angry about politics from time to time.

Looking at the matter objectively, being pro choice makes a lot more sense than being anti choice.

The issue of late term abortions is a red herring be use they are extremely rare.
