I've heard/read here some of our progressives complain about TYT before.  My wife got into the news (via YouTube clips) during Covid and unfortunately, has kept up the habit.  YouTube's algorithms decided to give her a lot of NBC News and TYT (because of her choices I'm sure) so I've seen a lot of TYT and you know what?  It ain't that bad.  Sure, their favored economic model is wrong, but that's true of almost everyone.  But on like social stuff, recreational outrage stories of the day and general political ethics they are pretty damn good.  Certainly better than NBC News or the worst half of our own Redavs.  So, what's the problem with them?  Is there a problem with them?  Does this post destroy my libertarian bonafides?

They've been around long enough to have made a lot of enemies. Obviously the right hates them. The mainstream corporate Democrats hate them, also for obvious reasons. The left hates them for not being left enough. Another segment of their former fans hate them for going from their humble barebones origins to a more corporate, heavily produced style, which I guess means they "sold out" or something. They were also unapologetic progressives during the height of the anti-SJW moral panic in the mid 2010s, so they got a lot of hate for that. They've jumped the gun on certain issues before and been too quick to judge or defend people. They are also responsible for subjecting the world to Jimmy Dore, Dave Rubin, and Hasan Piker, three of the worst political commentators in the history of the internet and all three of them could be diagnosed as functionally retarded.

Basically, they're independent enough that most hacks can find reasons to despise them and they've also made a handful of genuinely catastrophic mistakes that some people choose not to forgive them for.

Aside from the fact that Cenk Uygur is a narcissistic, valueless prick who employs various grifters and is one himself? Not much. The things they do well and issues where they are right are pretty pedestrian. You could find much less annoying people on Twitter doing the same.

They have some good stuff. I don't really watch it because I don't have the time.

Just prefer PBS News Hour.

They're firmly left wing while also willing to call out the excesses of the woke, idpol obsessed progressives. Basically the people they tend to piss off the most are the loudest on Twitter. Also some claim Ana Kasparian is anti trans but I've seen no evidence of it.

For as much as everyone hates Cenk, it would actually be very good for the left if more people had a slightly milder version of his personality. Even though he is successful, he comes across very blue-collar. He's got a sense of humor, he's a family man, he's very passionate about his views but he's still willing to talk to most people. He's quite friendly assuming he isn't on a passionate rant about something he cares about. Mistakes aside, he really does seem like a very likable family man.

Cenk once wrote an article denying the Armenian Genocide. The "Young Turks" name checks out.

I used to watch them in high school into college when they were on Current TV (remember that?) But they lost me in 2012 when they advocated for a primary against Obama, and evidently they're doing the same thing now.

They have a few bad takes here and there.
They have Nina Turner guest host.
They get really angry and loud about things.
They're a little too woke for some people, including me.

Otherwise, they're mostly good and get WAY too much hate.
