For the past four months, President Bush and his big business allies have vigorously been promoting what they call a “comprehensive” immigration policy. Well, according to the NBC News/ Wall Street Journal Poll they haven’t been too successful with their propaganda effort.. The question asked was: “As you may know, President Bush has proposed to allow foreigners who have jobs but are staying illegally in the United States to apply for legal, temporary worker status. Do you strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhat oppose, or strongly oppose this proposal?”
Date poll Strongly Somewhat Somewhat Strongly Depends Favor Favor Oppose Oppose Unsure 04/07 14% 30% 18% 33% 5% 12/06 19 27 18 32 4 Change -5 +3 0 +1 +1
Also, President Bush has gone around the past few months claiming that the U.S. has made progress in dealing with illegal immigration. Well, Gallup conducted a poll on April 13 through 15 of this year and asked the following question:“Do you think the U.S. has made progress or lost ground in dealing with illegal immigration in the past year, or has there been no change?” The results of that poll were:
Made Progress Lost Ground No Change Unsure 12% 43% 42% 3%
As to the argument President Bush and his big business buddies have been making that illegal aliens help the nation’s economy, well, the Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg Poll conducted April 5 through 9 of this year asked the following question: “Generally speaking, do you think that illegal immigrants help or harm the nation’s economy, or do you think they neither help nor harm the nation’s economy?” The results were:
Help Harm Neither Unsure 24% 54% 17% 5%
Oh, and the big business types are also pushing to make it next to impossible to punish employers for hiring illegal aliens. The Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg Poll also asked: “Generally speaking, do you believe employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants should or should not be punished for their actions?” The results were:
Should Should Not Unsure
77% 18% 5%
Doesn't look good for Bush, big business or their "running dog lackies."
