In this scenario, FDR remained healthy, and was able to serve out his full 4th term. In 1948 he decides to run for re-election for a 5th term. Eisenhower is very troubled by FDR running for yet another term after the war was already over, and has serious disagreements with his domestic policies. He wants the Republican party to defeat him, but is concerned both by the policies of the isolationist wing of the party, and by the ability of the party's candidates to win in general. Although reluctant to go into politics, Eisenhower decides that he would be the best Republican to take on FDR, so he runs in 1948 and is picked as the Republican nominee. So, who would be the winner of this match-up?

Eisenhower wouldn't run against FDR. In fact, he only ran at all in 1952 due to Taft being an isolationist.

Roosevelt would be reelected against Dewey, only to die before his fifth term began.

Are you saying that's the case for the same reasons he didn't run against Truman?
