Thought it was more Cuomo than Hochul. In any case, when I was in NY in Jun 2022, I didn't see any restrictions.

In any case, Whitmer seemed like the worst COVID tyrant. Not sure how she won reelection by 10 points. Beshear was also pretty bad, yet he seems favored now in a Trump +25 state.

The Hector LaSalle fiasco really turned me on her, not because LaSalle was that bad (it was more a question of him being far worse than should be expected given the state's partisan lean than being particularly offensive) but because it revealed her to be a fundamentally stupid person. Remember when she had a whole rant about how judging someone because of the color of their skin is the same thing as judging a judge for judicial opinions they had written? We're not dealing with someone who knows up from down here

It's because the "COVID tyranny" framing isn't really any more reflective of the median voter than the forever-pandemic "why not just keep masking indefinitely?" framing. The American mainstream supported stringent measures when the pandemic looked and felt abrupt and apocalyptic in nature, but got sick of them eventually and does not want them back. I think it's best that everyone accept that this, factually, is the case and is how public opinion developed.

Anyway, Hochul is horrendous.

She is yet another NY-based politician who has actively fought against the party's left flank (much like her immediate predecessor as governor), so that is enough for me to rate her as an HP.
