DeSantis purely for the fact that Trump is despised by independents.

I figure that DeSantis will be demonized successfully in the media as well. He very likely will be toxic by election day.
DeSantis is already demonized enough in the media that it would probably kill potential unique crossover appeal in GE if he was nominated.

They will have a harder time doing it, hell the media has been trying to do it for 3 years now and have barely anything to show for it!

At this point, the gap is pretty small, but much as DeSantis is a wannabe Trump, there are still some people who buy into the idea that he's a "departure from Trump", and I think that group is slightly larger than the "Trump or bust" crowd.
