I am speaking to you from the town of War, West Virginia, in the company of my dear friend in arms, Franklin Finch. I am calling on all Patriots who live in bondage in the rebelling Southern lands to rise up and join the cause of freedom and liberty in the good State of West Virginia.

As we speak, your loyal Unionist brothers are hard at work preparing to liberate the free State of West Virginia from Southern and lowlander Virginian tyranny. The cowards who claim to love ‘freedom’ and ‘regional rights’ so much have conspired to trample on the rights of all West Virginians. They are no better than the slaveholders and secessionist traitors of old in this regard.

Sons of Appalachia! Brothers of the mountains! I dare you to rise up in defense of your freedom! Take up arms! Free your state from the oppressor. For home, for hearth, for Union!
