I believe I was racially discriminated against at my last job by my supervisor. I also felt HR was hostile to me when I tried to report it, to protect the supervisor. I also experienced retaliation by said supervisor after I tried to report it. I was written up for something I did not do and was not told the company policy on appeals until after I signed the write up slip.

I spoke to a lawyer who is a family friend. I told him what happened and he said its iffy I could win a lawsuit because of the state I live in (Tennessee). That said, what happened is serious enough to threaten a lawsuit he explained. I don't even want to sue, I just want an apology and a chance to talk to someone higher up in the company to report what happened. Also a removal of a write up I received as retaliation.

My lawyer has since sent out a letter threatening a lawsuit, but also explaining litigation would not be pursued if I received an apology, removal of the write up, and an in person opportunity to share what I've experienced.

What are the odds the company will respond to the letter? Knowing the toxic culture, I am honestly expecting them to ignore the letter considering that a potential lawsuit would be on shaky ground. My lawyer thinks an official letter from his office with his letterhead would probably promt a response and it would be really odd for them to ignore it.

I know threatening a lawsuit will instantly make me a persona non grata and they'll ignore anything I say even if I get a sit down opportunity. Especially since I no longer work there. I just want an apology and a removal of the write up because in my line of work I need to report that kind of thing when applying for jobs.

Yes. The supervisor in the story was the principal at my old school. The company refers to the school district. Why?
