I don't think Donald Trump deserves any respect just because 46% of Americans were stupid enough to vote for him.

As President though, I didn't just blindly want him to fail, because that would mean harm would come to millions of Americans and the world as a whole (as it did during the pandemic).

Generally yes, but for someone like Trump, whose campaign and presidency was just chalk full of bullying and uncivil behavior not seen in a president in god knows how long, I just can't. I won't respect someone who doesn't show any respect for others.

Exactly my thinking. Unfortunately this means I’m forced to vote no. But I won’t respect a man because of the office he held when he himself disrespected and disgraced that office.

There's a difference between not showing respect and showing disrespect. I'm not the type of person to go out of my way to harass someone, although I would certainly not show any active respect to Obama (due to his last month in office) or Trump (due to literally everything he's ever done).

Could you elaborate on this?

You mean to say you don’t respect any presidents? Lol. I’m guessing you mean you don’t respect any president inherently just because of their office, which makes sense to me, but tbh that’s made a bit unclear by this wording.

All of them, regardless of party ... Yes ... except ...
Except for trump. trump was an a$$hole. I don't respect a$$holes, regardless if they were presidents or everyday people you met in society.
Why should a$$holes deserve my (or anybody's) respect?
before 2016 the answer was yes.  Trump is a very very bad human being.
Everyone except for Trump

Jan 6th was such a destabilizing action/inaction that I can't ever forgive it.

Agreed with all these posts.

All of them except Donald Trump.

People who openly desire to terminate the Constitution and encourage sedition deserve no respect.

What was wrong with Obama’s last month in office?

That got my curiosity also. Hopefully we get more on this.

We will never get close to a politician, Obama had us Donations to him because he was giving out tickets to see him in DC that never happened they are like athletes or movie stars especially an R why would I want to see a Republican, it was okay in the 90s to visit an R but since Bush W income inequality, I rather see my time and try to get tickets to see Michael Moore

Bernie Sanders had one Public Enemy performance in the primary and hasn't been back to the blk community

You really hold the voters in high esteem, don't you? I guess democracy is only good when it elects the left.

I've prayed for Biden once or twice. I probably prayed for Trump the same amount.

The only appropriate reaction to crossing paths with Trump is to point and laugh
I disagree, unless you want to emulate the schoolyard bully. Even though Trump is the schoolyard bully, he need to be taught how to act nice. And we do that by showing him how. Anyway, nobody cares. I'm the first one to cast aspersions on Trump. But face to face seems to be what the op was getting at, so face to face I would treat Trump with respect, even though on the inside I would want to do all these things posters are talking about.

As a Buddhist, I think you should respect everyone.

But I voted no because I don't think special respect should be reserved for the handful of people whose talent is mostly being in the right place at the right time, and in our era sucking up special interest cash in exchange for favors.

I actually like all the presidents prior to Bush, Clinton did well with the economy. Obama I can respect but I won't praise the man, Trump is the same, Biden I will critize since he's the current president and they need critizism...

I'd show respect to any of them, except for Trump because he's fat and mean.
