The Defense Secretary is an executive officer who's in charge of running a the Pentagon, a complex department with thousands of employees that oversees a number of critical issues. I think it's much more important the guy at the top is better in fulfilling his duties rather than giving charismatic speeches. It's not like Austin has any presidential ambitions either.

The boss of the military-industrial complex should at least have a little flash and flair to him.
