TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Sunday his country would proceed with its disputed nuclear program, comparing its nuclear drive to a train that has no reverse gear or brakes.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, however, said what Iran needed was "a stop button."

..."The train of the Iranian nation is without brakes and a rear gear," the radio quoted Ahmadinejad as telling a gathering of Islamic clerics. "We dismantled the rear gear and brakes of the train and threw them away sometime ago."

..."They don't need a reverse gear. They need a stop button," Rice said on "Fox News Sunday." "They need to stop enriching and reprocessing, and then we can sit down and talk about whatever is on Iran's mind."

Huh?  How does pride figure into using analogies?

I think Ahmadinejad's point is that Iran is intent on arming itself with nukes and there is nothing to compromise on.

Of course, my view is that Ahmadinejad's sect is more than willing to commit suicide in order to destroy the US and Israel.  So we need to decide whether we are going to confront Iran or whether we are going to surrender to Iran.  And by the looks of it, the Democrats and the Joint Chiefs are already waiving the white flag.

So, if I am proud of anything, it is that I am not naive enough to believe Ahmadinejad can be persuaded to alter course.  But such a realization calls for sober action, not boastful pride.
