I am personally very frustrated that Republicans keep pushing stricter abortion bans. I think there are two cancers of Republican:
1, Trump and his cultists;
2, Religious extremist.

While I am confident we can get rid of the first in the next few years, I am not sure when we can get rid of the other.

Depends on what you call someone who supports a 12 week ban

Does that technically count as pro-choice or pro-life? It's certainly a position that wouldn't be enough for most Republican primary voters. However, in a state like Oregon, it could fare well in a general election.

Not an American, but I continue to find it crazy that both parties have become so incredibly extreme on this issue, either supporting "abortions" right up until birth and calling everyone who opposes this a dangerous infringer of the rights of "people who give birth", or on the other side of the spectrum, people thinking the morning after pill already amounts to genocide.

I get that a middle road isn't as intellectually pleasing, but parties that are too busy with intellectual purity tests and too little with moderation and common sense tend to be parties that aren't very pleasant to be ruled by. You guys have got two of them.

My solution: allow it until 12 weeks except for calamities surrounding the mother's or the child's health (including severe disabilities), in which case it could take place later, and be done with it.

Sure; I'm pro-choice and vote consistently Republican. If you compare referendum results to general elections you'll see that there are lots of us.

I think that all Republicans are united by a distrust of mainstream institutions in the US, such as government and media, and that this distrust is rising. (In fact as US cultural influence has grown in the 21st century this has begun spreading to other societies, too). 'Trump and his cultists' are one way this distrust is expressed; when they go away they will simply be replaced by the next way. (Evangelical Christianity is probably outright growing within the US, and certainly outright growing outside the US, so this is indeed something that will be around much longer. But the causes of Trumpism are also actually not something that is leaving our society.)

Maybe Roe is a reasonable line. My personal view is abortion should be done in a way that the fetus won't feel pain.

If I am a politician, I won't push any new abortion ban. Regarding how to draw the line, maybe we should go with a referendum.

I'm a de facto Republican and support abortion in almost all circumstances as well as euthanasia. The pro-life stuff is the worst policy position of American conservatives today but much less important to me than issues like immigration, crime, and welfare/spending.

Absolutely!

If I can change one policy position of R, abortion will be the choice and it not even close.

I am probably more 'pro-choice' than most registered Republicans (though I still consider myself pro-life), and I feel like that's become more true since Dobbs. I personally oppose abortion and think public officials should say that it is not good and should be avoided where possible, but I can also see that there are times when attempts to regulate it do far more harm than good. It is more important to me that we take a tack more like "safe, legal, and rare" as a practical way of actually reducing the number of abortions than just trying to pass sweeping prohibitions.

Typo I assume? And if you lived in Michigan would you have been one of those now rather talked about Dixon/Yes on Prop 3 voters?
