This woman blocked her own protege in the Congressional Primary after unretiring only to reveal she's quite possibly terminally ill?

I feel bad for her but I also think her running for reelection was outrageously irresponsible.

Which one? Amanda Edwards or Isaiah Martin?

This seat probably ends up going to State Rep. Jarvis Johnson, who primaried her a long time ago.

God bless... horrible news. Pancreatic cancer is unfortunately one of the worst and most vicious, if not the worst.

This is happening more and more. I know of 2 instances the last year just in Indiana.

I sympathize with her after this diagnosis but it doesn’t change the fact that she has been one of the meanest Members of Congress for years. She treats her staff like absolute s**t.

No, actually most are pretty good to work for. And even if they were, she is still known for standing out as one of the very worst.

No. Most are good, decent people who treat their staff with respect.

Among the Capitol Hill community, she is a well known exception

First & foremost, I hope she will be okay.

Now I don't think she should have ran for re-election, but to be fair she never really indicated that she would retire from the House if she lost the Houston's Mayor race.   She did nothing to quell the the speculation either, but its not like she came out and said she wouldn't be running either way.  Also, there is little to indicate that she knew at the time she chose to run again that she was ill (if anything it appears that it was a recent diagnosis and she was not ill at the time (or did not know).

Tbh I think it's a little hilarious because Edwards would've been a terrible Rep too. She's probably the front-runner now anyway.

These were my first thoughts. Lee's abuse is well-documented; by all accounts she's made a very toxic work environment for her staffers.

Why do you think Edwards would be a terrible rep? Out of curiosity.

I couldn't really get much of a read on her.

She probably won’t. The survival rate for those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer is very low, especially when it’s stage IV. I don’t know if it’s stage IV in Lee’s case, but not even 5% of those diagnosed with state IV pancreatic cancer make it for even another another 5 years (Alex Trebek was lucky to live 20 months after diagnosis).

Nevertheless, I wish the best to her and her family.

It's probable that she did not have this diagnosis before she opted for re-election and she certainly didn't know about it before she ran for Mayor. This is what took out Michael Landon and he passed away three months after having symptoms that led doctors too his diagnosis.
