I'm voting FC.  Although it has serious problems, given its huge diversity of languages, ethnicities and cultures, I think it's impressive that it functions as well as it does.  Definitely a country I would like to visit.

Very good food, very attractive women, but culture is overall too anti-individualism for my taste and politics are hopelessly corrupt and function poorly.

I don't know.

Has some exceptional examples of people.

Then they have some abhorrent behaviours that they simply won't fix in their own country. Phone centres, rampant child prostitution etc.

In business in Western Australia, the only Indians I meet are Uber drivers and restaurant owners.

The Indian Phone Scam phenomenon is something that would make an impact if it was fixed.

In the early 2000's in Western Australia, it was getting really bad for our business.

I don't think the Indian Government realise what those phone call centres do the reputation of the country.

When I think of the different regional languages of India, I imagine what it would be like if a similar situation existed in the U.S.  What if the people of Los Angeles spoke a language that was not only completely mutually unintelligible with that spoken in the Baltimore area, where I'm originally from, but didn't even belong to the same language family?  I sometimes imagine myself needing subtitles to watch the O.J. trial because otherwise I'd have no idea what Marcia Clark and Johnnie Cochran were saying!  And us needing to be told by a local translator that Cochran said something ("If it doesn't fit, you must acquit") that sounds very catchy in the L.A. language, otherwise we wouldn't understand what all the fuss was about when he said it.

Deep red Republican states would ban movies with spoken Californian language in theaters (with subtitles in the local language) and would only allow the showing of voice dubbed versions.

There is a lot of interesting history and culture, but rape is endemic, it's unbelievably filthy, and it's quickly careening toward a hellish theo-mobocracy where people get lynched for having allegedly eaten beef. Not a fan in its current state. This is a commentary only on the country and not on Indian Americans or anything like that.

So true.

While violence in many forms frequently occurs in India, including hateful violence targeted at certain religions/ethnicities/etc, to fairly describe India, one must mention that India has a massive MASSIVE population of more than ONE BILLION people, speaking over 70 native languages, and is extremely diverse in numerous other ways.  Hateful and violent actions are numerous.  So much happens in such a populous diverse nation, that it’s easy to suggest lots of things—good or bad—as everyday life for most of India; that India is just a chauvinistic rape culture, or that there’s imminent genocide of Muslims and Christians at the hands of some Hindu Taliban.

The truth is that it IS impressive that India functions as well as it does, and the diverse peoples actually live a lot more harmoniously together than what the common narrative suggests.

No country can match India’s pluralism.  Certainly not the US; has the US had its Muslim minority well-represented at the highest levels of government?

In fairness to the U.S., the percentage of the population that is Muslim in India is much higher than here.

I can scarcely speak ill of the homeland, can I? That would be self-hatred.

FF for the food alone.

I kinda wanna try more dishes outside lamb vindaloo (my favorite).  But anytime I go to an Indian restaurant, the milk and/or coconut-based curries just don't really get my jaws salivating, so I just end up getting the same thing over-and-over again.   No, I'm not lactose-intolerant.
