Unless Barbara Lee gets the nomination, there would be no point in having such a conservative VP.

No thanks. The guy has been a total disappointment in the Senate.

That he seems to vote wrong a majority of the time on important votes?
Examples: Gonzales, Roberts nomination, Alito fillibuster, Rice, banruptcy bill, torture bill.

He was supposed to be a lot more reasonable than he turned out.  He represents Colorado, not Mississippi, so he doesn't need to be so crazy.

Don't forget the flag "desecration" amendment. He also supported a third-party candidate over the Democratic nominee in Connecticut last year.

Udall will better represent Colorado's views on the issues, and we'll be able to field a strong primary challenge to Salazar in 2010.

Thank you for clearing that up.

I still think he deserves to show us his full potential in the next four years, but based on what I've heard, he will have to be very closely watched on major votes.

Salazar is not very good on the stump or in debates.  He has very little charisma plus he barely won in 2004 against a terrible opponent.  A VP nomination for him would smack of tokenism.  He's fine staying where he is.

That said, I wouldn't call him a disappointment.  I wouldn't call him a shining star either, though.  He's such an established figure in CO, there's no way he'd be successfully primaried.  If Udall wins the other seat, though, one of the Dems will eventually need to move up to make room for Hickenlooper to take a statewide office.

Sadly, I think you may be right about that...but then again nobody really thought Lieberman could be beat either.

A primary challenger would get thier ass kicked by Salazar and if they were to win, the Republican would kick thier ass.

Colorado is not a liberal state. A Senator like Boxer or Kerry wouldn't last 10 minutes in Colorado.

Anyhow, Colorado likes Salazar. I didn't give him much of a chance but he's done a good job for Colorado.

Not yet, anyway. Tongue

Watch Udall. If he wins, as everyone expects him to, I think it'll be safe to say that Colorado is flying our way. He's roughly as liberal as Boxer.

Rob - Keep in mind Colorado is a very polarizing state. I really don't think a lot of people realize that. I'm in Colorado Springs where the bible thumpers made me change from Republican to a Libertarian. Also, Boulder is so liberal that it would more than likely drive me back to a republican again.

Udall success would be with Denver, Pueblo and Boulder. I think Colorado Springs and the front range would give him trouble.  I see him winning but only by a hair and if he gets to the Boxer-like Senator, he'll only last six years.

And that is why thankfully, I'm moving away from CO in the next 30 days. The Army is having me move again!
