The latest scuttlebutt is that they were set by Thaksin loyalist elements in the military.  (sounds a bit ridiculous to me, but they say quite a few have been arrested).

I agree - it doesn't make sense for factions among the elite to use this tactic.  But perhaps the whole thing was faked to make an excuse for a purge.

I'd have thought the Muslims did that, it would be a big surprise to me if former politicians did that, as bad as Thaksin is, i doubt he'd be a terrorist.
