Today I was graphing a detailed map of how Cook County in 2020. One thing that stood out to me was that the least Biden precinct in the immediate downtown of Chicago is home to the massive 88 floor Trump Tower Hotel and Residences building. I wondered if this was just a coincidence or if there was something more too this given there wouldn't be any other reeason for the precinct to be more conservative than those around it.

Looking carefully at the map above, said precinct sticks out like a bit of a sore thumb

In NYC, the Riverside Drive area where there was a bunch of Trump buildings (some of which have since been renamed), Trump cracked 10% of the vote compared to most surrounding precincts where he got udner 10%.

Also in midtown NYC, the precinct with what is probably the most notorious Trump Tower, it only voted Biden + 35 which is relatively weak considering the surrounding area. The more I search, it seems that every precinct in a majour city with a Trump building is about 5-10% redder than the precincts around them.

Finally I looked in Las Vegas where the precinct with the Trump Hotel and Residences voted Trump + 12 despite being surrounded by precincts Biden won.

One could make the case that this could be becvause most of these Trump apartment buildings are very expensive and hence those living in them are more likely to both be white and hold conservative viewpoints, but the issue with that argument is these Trump buildings are usually surrounded by other very expensive buildings.

Are people in Trump buildings actually more likely to vote for him (or is it the other way around where conservatives are more likely to live in a Trump building). It could just be coincidental but I feel there is more to this.

Choosing to buy property in a Trump-branded building post-2016 is probably some pretty serious self-selection, I'd imagine.
