DIMOCK, Pa. -- Chris Carney, a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve and a Pennsylvania State University associate professor of political science, will announce his candidacy for U.S. Congress on September 7, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. on the courthouse green in Montrose, Pa.

"I intend to represent Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District in order to reclaim the middle ground for America," said Carney. "For too many years, we have been subject to an `in your face' political process that emphasizes our differences instead of finding common ground and moving ahead. It is time to bring civility and respect back to our political process and elect leaders with integrity, leaders that represent our interests and values."

During his campaign for Congress, Carney will highlight how he can contribute his leadership and expertise to the national security debate in Congress. In addition to his military experience, he has served as Director of Intelligence Support for the Global War on Terrorism and as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of Defense.

"We must have leaders in Washington that are able to face our security challenges with experience and strength," Carney said. "I know the dangers we face and have the expertise to fight terrorism effectively. Our homeland was struck on September 11th, and, as your congressman, I vow to secure this nation and fight to prevent another 9/11."

In Congress, Carney will focus on securing America from both foreign and domestic threats. As a father raising 5 children in rural Pennsylvania, Carney understands the pressures facing American families. He will bring our concerns and values to Washington, not bring Washington's values home.

"We need to strengthen Social Security, not privatize it; improve our schools, not just criticize them; and fight for economic prosperity and healthcare for all, not just a privileged few," Carney said. "Healthcare in particular must be a priority. Healthcare costs are strangling small businesses and individuals alike. This is simply unacceptable. We have a moral obligation to find solutions that work for all Americans."

Chris Carney was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and worked his way through college as an EMT. He is an active hunter and fly-fisherman who loves to play football with his kids. Chris has lived in Northeastern Pennsylvania for 13 years with Jennifer, his wife of 18 years, and their five children, ages 5 to 14.

...and he doesn't have a shot. Thanks for playing.

(If a Casey can't win that district, then this guy certainly can't. Sure Sherwood has gotten into trouble but this guy is nothing serious.)

From someone that lives here, Carney has no chance. Well, maybe I shouldn't say that. If a sex tape of Sherwood and his mistress appears in the next year, maybe he will lose, but it's doubtful. There simply are too many partisan Republicans in the district. It'll be nice to see a competitive race though.

Do you think Sherwood has a chance of going down in the primary?

It's not going to happen. In fact, the only competitive races we'll see will be in PA 6 - Gerlach vs. Murphy Part II (Gerlach will win again) and PA 8 - Fitzpatrick vs. whoever the Dems put up (Maybe Fitz vs. Schrader Part II? That would be hilarious. Either way, Fitz is likely to win). PA 13 will be interesting if Bruce Castor runs.

Not if someone doesn't run. The most likely candidate I've heard is Jerry Birmelin, a state representative from Wayne County who voted for the pay raise. If he ran, maybe it could be a race. Sherwood, though, would have much more name recognition and money. I don't see Birmelin running, nor winning this race.

Wow, I feel so famous.

And I also wonder how desparate the Carney campaign is to list this site.

Well the NE Philly Young Dems and the Southeastern PA Teenage Republicans linked to this site. Then again, we aren't candidates for public office.
