Dazzleman is one of those members who I consider to being farthest from extremists. Many of his posts are most well argumented ones what I have seen in this forum. And he said that most of his tastes in personal life (like culture) are more "liberal" than "conservative".

I don't know if I'd say my tastes in personal life are more "liberal" than "conservative," but I would say they don't meet the stereotypes painted by liberals about conservatives.

I am a northerner, not a southerner.  I like sports, but I'm not a particular lover of NASCAR, though I will watch it occasionally.  I dress pretty well when the occasion warrants it, and I like to eat out in fancy, trendy restaurants.  I drive an expensive European car, and live in a college town.

So I'm not the stereotypical overweight guy who goes out to dinner at Bob's Big Boy wearing overall, as the elitist liberal view of conservatives usually paints us.

I am no extremist. I am a moderate for the area I live in.

Damn the south is scary if there's whole communities where most people believe that if you oppose Thomas Jefferson knocking up his 15 year old slaves, you're a bigot against inter-racial dating.

I think you have no idea how scary the South is.  I am living in Missouri at the moment, and get some hint of it.  Still, I really don't go to the rural areas.  Why would one?

I wouldn't say my ideological views are extreme (moderately left-of-centre on economics; mildly right-of-centre on some social issues) but I'm aggressively partisan

I must say I dislike the British Conservative Party (essentially because of Thatcher - she didn't/doesn't have a compassionate bone in her body, that one) and I have little love for the GOP but that antipathy doesn't necessarily extend to their supporters. I'm critical of the Religious Right, however

If you are that compassionate, why don't you start by being compassionate on people who are not compassionate and stop using the guns of government to force them unto contributing for your feelgood programs?

I encourage Philip to leave the country if he can find better and I would do the same to Bono except he already lives in a sh**tty socialist nation.

Vastly over used term on this forum. I would not worry about it one bit. You most certainly are not a troll.

NewFederalist is a troll. Wink

Thanks.  Neither are you man.  There are some who think anybody who doesn't agree with them is a troll.

The measure of compassion is in the results, not the intentions.  If Thatcher's reforms helped produce an economic revival for Britain, and bettered the lives of the people there, how is that not compassionate?

You should also remember that compassion toward undeserving people is cruelty toward deserving people.  I've seen so much compassion produce so much misery, as in compassion toward violent criminals which results in their early release so they can victimize more people.

People's lives are usually bettered much more by tough realists than by those who go around preaching compassion.

"They" wouldn't get off the hook that easily - you can be rest assured about that! People have social and moral responsibilities towards the well being of others and society, in general, as well as themselves - and I'm not talking socialism (of which, I don't subscribe too). When Thatcher, famously said there was "no such thing, as society" bang went all semblance of social responsbility, and 25 years down the line, things haven't yet been put right.  And that from a woman, who had the neck to quote St Francis of Assni upon coming to office

I'll be frank though, I care somewhat less about the 'Me, me, me' or the 'Self, first, self last, self bliddy always' brigade

Let's just say we can agree to differ, Bono. You have your values and I have mine Wink

I recently learned that Saint Francis of Assissi never made the famous "Where there is error..." statement. It was actually taken from a World War I-era French writing. One can be sure that there were quite a few mortified Italians when those words made their way out of Thatcher's mouth.

BTW, it's great to see you back Huckleberry Finn.  It's always great to see a moderate and sensible European.  I'd love to visit your beautiful country.
You're always welcome! Smiley

Speaking of Finns, I met two of them at LSU.

One had beautiful blue eyes and honey-blond hair, great to look at and talk to.

To bad his girlfriend didn't like me and we had to end the friendship...

Indeed. For someone who claims to want to avoid drama he sure likes attracting it.
