It feels a little more important to me this year. It's become clear over the last year that there are people in this country who are not just going to stop fighting progress for LGBT+ people, but they're ready to ramp up that fight. And, with the demise of Roe, it has also become clear that hard-fought rights are not safe, even if they've been in place for 50 years.

We're not going back in the closet, and those who are in are not staying there forever. We aren't going back.

Happy Pride.

Throughout my life, people didn't want me 'out', didn't want me accepting myself, did want me f-cking, didn't want me partnering, didn't want me marrying.

Well you didn't win.

Clutch your rosaries, wave your holy books, appeal to 'biology', grift for your money, scapegoat for votes, whip up your moral panics, shame, 'other' and throw punches when you've nothing left.

Happy Pride!

I see more and more pride flags each year, which is a great thing. I felt so appreciated when I saw my first public pride flag as a teen. I felt so valued.

I hate rainbow capitalism as much as everyone else but seeing all these pride flags makes me think how welcomed, how cherished someone who is struggling with their sexual orientation must feel. It's like the world saying: you belong here.

Keep up the fight!

Pride Month? A month, Jack? Don't be so ridiculous! Sht's gay all year round, son!

And of course, I'm going to post Old Reliable:
Quote from: Danielle Tozer, Dreadnought (2017)
I'm transgender, and a lesbian, and I'm not ashamed of that.
(maybe some of you could read the Nemesis series for Pride? I'd love to have someone else to rant about my nerd sh**t to.)

Happy Pride!

People who say that being gay isn't central for their identity and doesn't change anything, and criticize those who do, are either malicious or privileged or both. For me, I could never escape it- every part of my life is touched by it, largely thanks to people with hateful or outdated views. The stress of coming out, the constant small conflicts with my parents over whether I should keep my life hidden or not, the need to justify the humanity of my partner to them, the grim understanding that my grandfather has to pass away before I get married because he absolutely can't know, it's everywhere in our lives. As on a lot of issues, the U.S. is currently leading the Western world (including Israel) on a resurgence of public homophobia. We have to listen to public figures calling us groomers, pedos, perverts, deviants, enemies of society, and we have to listen to people who claim to support us rationalize supporting these figures.

Pride isn't important because of parties or the media. It's important because it's our time to fight back and promote the struggle we have to lead throughout the year. Our time to show that we're more powerful than those who hate us for no reason. And our time to thank all the progressive LGBTQ activists who brought us where we are now- not yet close to being there, but well on our way to defeat bigotry, homophobia, transphobia and all other forms of hate.
