I'm married to a Filipina so I have had the chance to visit the Philippines many times. I hope this doesn't deviate away from the topic.

Nearly everyone I know on my wife's side of the family supports Duterte and Marcos, who are distant from my idea of a decent candidate, but I can understand why Filipinos at the moment are currently herding toward candidates with seemingly disciplinarian and authoritarian streaks. My wife would agree without being offended, but at the cost of offending most Filipino-Americans and Filipinos, I will give my honest assessment of the country.

-snip-

If voting for Marcos and Duterte give them a sense of revitalizing their economy and putting their country back on track, so be it, but the first step in remedying the country's woes starts with a change in culture first.

on a related note

Corruption obviously isn’t exclusive to the Philippines but this was a thought-provoking read.

Quote
Why is the corruption in the Philippines very hard to stop? Is it already connected to our culture?

Corruption in the Philippines is not hard to stop, nor is it connected to the culture. It is impossible to stop because it is ingrained into the culture and everyone is at it.

Most people think that corruption evolves from people in certain positions taking. WRONG, WRONG WRONG. Corruption exists only because the masses promote it to the point if condoning it.

My parents-in-law own multiple homes, one of which they rent out to a tenant, who at one point started not paying their monthly rent. Because the tenant kept making excuses about family's financial situation, my in-laws graciously refused to evict him, but the tenant moved out and ran away without ever paying the missed rents. My in-laws moved on and did not even report or go after him.

This is one of the numerous things I've observed that makes me have bleak and dismal outlook for the country. Filipinos seem to have a strong bible-thumping sense of morals, but not necessarily in a relatable sense. They would unapologetically tell you "The bible says so" when asked why they oppose abortion and same sex marriage, but would be tentative when asked about theft, bribery or drugs because they have become numb or totally oblivious to their surroundings.

Well, congratulations to the Philippines for gleefully voting away their democracy. I hope that's not a prelude to what happens here in November.

Are there any non-Marcos precincts? So I would have somewhere to visit if I went to the Philippines.

There's a map of the results here.

It's quite polarized regionally.

Preliminary results for Manilla.

BONGBONG MARCOS  331,165 40.83%
ISKO MORENO           275,887 34.02%
LENI ROBREDO          182,537 22.51%

Closer than the nationwide results.
Moreno is the current mayor of Manilla.

The Marcos/Duterte landslide seems to be the successful merger of their respective vote bases into a monster voting bloc.   Sara Duterte outperformed Marcos which shows that it was her bloc that mostly carried Marcos.  Marcos will have to take into account the power of the Duterte clan while he is in power and  Sara Duterte seems to be in a very strong position to win the Prez race in 2028.

https://ph.rappler.com/elections/2022/races/president-vice-president/overseas-absentee-voting-results

Only 57% in right now- but so far it's 73.55% Bongbong Marcos (321k votes), 20.02% Leni Robredo (87k votes). The Overseas Absentee Vote map doesn't seem to have any regional or country breakdowns.
