OK, I'm thinking: Santorum and Allen are done. Guiliani is way too liberal, plus I don't even think he'll run. Romney's got way too many problems and is too likely to make a mistake. That leaves outside of some dark horses, only McCain. And McCain is soft on illegal immigration. So if Tancredo runs his gadfly campaign, he could be more than just a Kucinich. Could he defeat McCain on illegal immigration, and then go on to lose the general in a landslide and destroy all inroads the GOP has made into the Hispanic vote?

Not very likely.  The GOP is desperate to win in 2008 and will not nominate someone who they know will lose in a landslide.  Tancredo also hasn't expressed much interest, he's more likely to run for Senate if Allard retires.  Plus you can't forget Duncan Hunter, who introduced legislation calling for a fence.  Also Newt Gingrich might run and would attract far more support from conservatives.

Right now the people to watch are McCain, Giuliani, and Romney.  No one else at this point, I think, has a chance for the nomination.

I think Frist is a solid candidate. He's a darling of the Religious Right with a Senate voting record that's attractive to most Republicans (pro-war, pro-PATRIOT Act etc.)

He's also a solid campaigner who's free to start campaigning right now.

Good, that'll at least guarantee us the Sneate seat.

Also good, since he'd be a terrible candidate in the general election.

Well this has the same possibility of happening of America taking over Canada in the next year but it could happen.

There would have to be some sort of watershed event to move the issue of immigration into the forefront and to solidify the Republican voting block into the same sort of position as Tancredo.

Thank goodness Frist is helping keep our ports safe by banning internet gambling.

Tancredo's intentions are to make illegal immigration an issue in the primary and may run to make sure it gets attention but I don't think he plans on being the Republican Nominee in the general election.

Tancredo would be kicked out of the GOP caucus *crosses fingers* before he is allowed to even win a state in our primary.

When Frist was a medical student he used to take in cats from rescue centres and experiment upon them.

Republicans don't run presidential campaigns on much else than national security. Sure, immigration might factor in somehow, but Tancredo's comments about bombing Mecca would come back to destroy him.

Tancredo doesn't stand a chance of getting the GOP nomination for president.  Nobody in their right head would support him for president.

He can probably win a race in a narrow district, but I don't think he could even win statewide in a conservative state, much less nationwide.
