Certainly McConnell seems likely to become Republican (presumably Minority) Whip- but who will take the whip job? Santorum's gone, Liddy Dole hasn't really been that successful, and Lott may make a run for it but I doubt that GOP has that poor a sense of PR. So Kyl? Hutchison?

Lamar Alexander was positioning himself for the spot for awhile, basically making it known that Santorum was a definite goner and that someone needs to step up. That is why I will support anyone but Alexander for the spot...well...almost anyone (no Snowe, Collins, etc.)

I think Hutchinson will get it.

What's the lowdown on this race?  I've seen lots of talk about the House leadership positions, but almost nothing about the Senate, except that Lott is likely to run for it.  Regardless of who you *want*, who is actually expected to run against him?  Alexander?  Hutchison?

Apparently the fact that he wasn't fooling himself that Santorum might have a hope in hell of re-election.

When a colleague is in a tough fight for re-election, you don't openly make attempts at the office. Maybe it's unfair of me but I dislike Alexander for doing that during the campaign.

The next Minority Whip will and should be Lamar Alexander.  I think it is unfair to punish him for being a realist.  I think we need leadership that understands political reality, that is in touch with the American people, and not just Washington DC loyalties.

I think there is some sort of rule in the GOP caucus that requires that a Tennessean be in one of the top spots Smiley   Anyway, there should be some sort of recognition that the only freshman Republican in the next Senate is from Tennessee.

At times, it was realistic to say Corker was finished. Would you have supported the party abandoning him, hypocrite?

I back Lott. He was railroaded out of the Majority Leader spot and we see where that got us.
