Let's assume Wallace actually wins the Democratic nomination in 1968. Could Nixon win DC? While a Republican winning DC sounds like something from a parallel universe, remember that those Deep South states Goldwater won were considered at the time to be solidly Democratic. So Nixon winning DC isn't unthinkable.

Considering the ethnic makeup of DC, Nixon.

Wallace,

He did well with black voters in Alabama and Nixon was not a favorite of D.C. residents.

That was after his 'change of heart'.

I think Nixon would win it.

Nixon would. Just like Alaska, DC was still just forming its partisan roots. Also remember that DC is primarily black, and thus Nixon.

Wallace. If Adolf Hitler ran on the Democratic ticket they would vote for him.

My guess is you'd see an EXTREMELY low turnout.

Wallace was a funny guy.

While running as the American Independent Candidate in 1968 some hippies called him a” Nazi”, and Wallace was offended. “I was killing fascist,” he shot back at them, “While you punks were still wearing diapers.”

While campaigning in Arizona some hippies started yelling some vulgar 4-leter words at him. Wallace told them, “Here are some 4-letter words for you “b-a-t-h” and “w-o-r-k.”

I'm with states... I think Hitler, Stalin, Jeffrey Dahmer, or Satan could easily carry DC on the Dem ticket.

DC blacks aren't stupid and would vote for Nixon. Nixon could still have won DC with less than 50% of the black vote since DC whites would be overwhelmingly for Nixon.

If Wallace somehow got the Democratic Nomination there would be some third party candidate, who was probably a liberal Democrat, but just couldn't stand to vote for Wallace. That candidate would have won DC.

He had a "change of heart" in the seventies, probably as a ploy to win the black vote for Alabama Governor.
