God, I hope they're not coming to Berlin too. That would be such a nuisance.

Seeing certain liberals on Twitter praising the French response here seems ludicrous unless they literally only watched the one video of a guy having his window broken and his car towed. A lot of the coverage seems to imply the police put up barricades and the protesters were deterred, which isn't what happened at all. Instead people trying to get around the police blockades were split all over the city until several thousand made it to Champs-Élysées, whereupon the police decided to just start indiscriminately tear gassing everyone, be they protesters, tourists, or the fully vaccinated patrons (including kids) of nearby cafes.

They then charged in and started beating people on the ground and random passersby as if trying to win a police brutality competition against the Rosguards

Someone also had the bright idea to impose a ban on French flags, so people driving around with their flags had them seized and thrown on the ground and one insane cop literally drew a gun on a driver for seemingly no reason whatsoever

Rather than deescalating the situation the police created a riot.

There's all this information coming from though? From the little French I understand the Twitter account "Boulevard Voltaire" seems to be a specifically anti-vaccine passport one, for instance. So you're only seem to be posting the views of whose who have a vested interest in making the government's response look particularly  bad anyway. Anything more balanced and objective maybe?

Also see what I had just posted in the Canada thread... the story there can either be "Trudeau has send sinpers to the bridge!" or "the situation between protesters and police is quite friendly and amicable", depending on what's your angle is:

The thirst of some right wing cranks for blood to be spilled in these affairs is indeed palpable.

Yeah, the French police sucks. We know.

The only difference is that they don't go soft and fraternize with far-right demonstrators like the US police does. At least they're equal-opportunity brutes.
