I didn’t see a mega thread for the U.S Senate race in Connecticut, so I created one.

Themis Klarides announced this morning that she’ll be running for Senate, instead of running for Governor.

This is still a Safe D race.

The Senate Race should stay Safe D. However, I think having strong candidates in safe races is important for state parties, particularly to establish a presence in areas they can win. That doesn't mean we need to give them masses of outside money, before anyone asks.

Impressive that the GOP has pretty serious candidates running in Connecticut and Vermont. Odd and kind of concerning that that isn't the case for IL-Sen, though, which is much more winnable than CT or VT.

I agree with this, I'm sure the Connecticut GOP is happy to have a credible candidate for this race.

It's an interesting move for Klarides, though. Klarides initially formed an exploratory committee for Governor, and the Governor's race is much more winnable for the GOP. Perhaps she figured she wouldn't be able to beat Stefanowski in the primary, so she switched to this race instead. But, there are probably other statewide races Klarides could have switched to that are more winnable for the GOP, like Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Comptroller etc.

Interesting. I originally had JR Romano running and defeating Richard Blumental. I guess I will have to change my prediction to Themis Klarides now.

Safe Democratic. Blumenthal will win by low double digits, even in a wave.

Not with Titanium Tilt Republican Rick Scott running the Republican Senate Campaign arm. He said that Connecticut is a prime pick up opportunity for the Republicans and that if they have good messaging and resources going to the race, it will narrowly flip.

I personally disagree Matt. I wouldn't count anything completely out but Connecticut is a Solidly Democratic State on a Federal level, and Blumenthal is basically a fixture in politics who is very popular in the Constitution State. Ms Klarides could make things interesting at days end, but I don't see her making this a Tossup race. By comparison at least I would say that Colorado and Washington, could become more competitive down the road. Id still rate the race as Safe Dem and I would expect as of now that Blumenthal wins by High Single-Low Double Digits at days end, similar to Patty Murray in Washington.

This race is similar to Washington. It's unlikely Klarides wins, but it certainly could be extremely close in a GOP wave.
