And just to explain what this all means:

End of an era? What Putin's 'suspension' of the New START nuclear treaty means
For more than 50 years, the U.S. and Russia — the world’s two largest nuclear powers — have had some form of arms control agreement. New START is the last remaining one.
----------------------------------------

Safe to say that once New START expires three years from now, that's it as far as arms control agreements are concerned -we aren't going to see anything to replace it for a while.  It is our brave new world, courtesy of Russia, China, and Iran.

my favorite part was when Putin said "and if they push us, we'll start testing nuclear weapons again".  Dumbass, we test that sh**t on computers these days.  What's next, balloons as spy vehicles?

Courtesy of us too. The US has long been known for not agreeing to a lot of international agreements concerning arms, or not enforcing compliance that well even when it does sign.

If Putin wants a nuclear war, he can have one. If his generals and chain of command really want to kill all their loved ones for some old idiot, then let them.
We are not scared of Russian tantrums. Go ahead Vladdy, kill us all. We are happy to die.

You speak for yourself only there, I think.

The likelihood remains that it is still more empty bluster, however.

Maybe the one thing where Russia remains a world leader these days.

To be honest, this kind of attitude is much crazier than anything Putin has done so far.

That’s what he has been sayin all this last year. He wants a nuclear war. If he has it, there will be consequences.

I was at a lecture on this yesterday by Fiona Hill. She made an interesting point; this only makes sense as yet another attempt tool to try and influence Western public opinion. If nuclear proliferation were to actually get restarted Russia wouldn't have much to gain (already having the world's largest nuclear stockpile) and the biggest loser would certainly be China. Were nuclear stockpiles to start growing again Japan and South Korea would be highly likely to quickly acquire nuclear weapons themselves, something China definitely wants to avoid. Russia itself only benefits from this if it scares away the West from supporting Ukraine.

Perhaps, but we need to send what I said as a message to Putin. Maybe it is conspiratorial, but every little comment counts when the Russians are gauging public opinion in the US. The more people who let Moscow know they are willing to die, the less likely Russia will be overtime to continue with this s**t.
