Well, I watched the Florida gov. debate last night and the Republican candidate was talking about the "sanctity of marriage" (vis a vis gay marriage of course) and in giving examples, first mentions his parents and then his own, up until he got divorced. In his response, he also mentioned how marriage is a *commitment*..
Well, isn't all that a little odd, to talk about marriage as both sacred and a commitment and then to admit that he is also divorced?

Did anybody else see the debate and noticed that comment?

Yes, it was awkward. Having said that, property taxes are a far more important issue to Floridians (from what I have heard) and thus the reason why David will lose. It would take more than a minor same-sex marriage gaffe to derail Crist at this point.

I thought Crist supported gay rights.

Like a lot of politicians who don't want to touch the issue of "gay marriage" with a ten foot poll, I think he may support so called "gay rights", if you can do that and still be opposed to "gay marriage" per se.

I don't remember all the details, just the typical "marriage is between a man and a woman", and using words like "commitment" and "sacred" and then using his marriage as an example of what the word means, which might be a tenable idea, were he not divorced.

Too bad Henry VIII is not still alive. He could be the Republican's poster boy for marriage and "family values". He loved marriage. After all, he was married six times.

I have a feeling Crist will repeal the ban on gay adoptions so I guess you could say he supports some gay rights.

That's because Charlie is in the closet.

Of course, there's former Rep. Bob Barr who married three times (divorced twice) and sponsored the Defense of Marriage Act.
