This will undoubtedly help Webb's performance in metro Richmond.  He was going to win big in the City anyway.  I just hope this will carry on into the suburbs.  He could win Hanover County, but Chesterfield County is an awfully tough nut to crack.  Perhaps he can make inroads into the conservative electorate there.

in a way it is.  wilder has a history of being at odds with the virginina democrat party, which was the reason for his independent run for the senate of 1994.

ive nothing to back this up, but i think wilder holds the 'good ol' boys' system of doing things in contempt.  heck, when wilder was growing up, virginia democrats were closing schools rather than accept black students.

i know wilder has had some scathing things to say about the dlc...which is odd because wilder is rather conservative himself.

Wilder's endorsement is too little, too late.

HUGE. That's amazing news! Wilder's endorsement is widely coveted and highly valued -- Wilder's endorsement of Kaine gave Kaine a crucial boost in the polls.

What a pessimist.

I will continue to maintain that Webb can win this race.

I'm not sold on this.  Wilder's endorsement will play well in Richmond, but I think it will actually have a negative effect (if any) in NOVA.  Wilder was not very popular in NOVA due to the disparity of attention between the two regions.  It does help Webb with the black vote, but Allen has received some key black endorsements as well as being welcomed at the NAACP.  It might be too late in the game though.  We'll have to see.

Its not going to hurt in NOVA, Allen is already toast there.

Of course he can win. It is nearly a dead even race and he is the challenger.

Hence the reason why I said "a negative effect (if any) in NOVA."

I see Webb pulling it off.  I never cared much for Allen anyhow when I lived in Virginia.

It would have been intersting to see Mark Warner go for that seat though. He would be ahead by atleast 10 points by now.

Allen has done absolutely nothing in 6 years in the Senate.  He was also mediocre governor who paved the way for the disastrous administration of Jim Gilmore.  Wilder was not the best governor Virginia has ever had, but he was certainly better than Gilmore.

I think Webb would make a wonderful senator, one who at least will put his state before special interest groups.

I'm just looking forward to seeing what happens on election day with this one.  I enjoy watching people with political aspects crash and burn.
