So The Hotelier are actually playing a show in Boston the day after my birthday! Since I'm difficult to shop for birthday gifts I asked my parents if they'd get me a plane ticket there, so I got show tickets and am ready for that weekend.

It'll be cold obviously (December 18-19) but not like it'll be any warmer here haha or something I'm not used to. Advice on what to do?

Make sure you get plenty of time going out and about and not posting on Atlas.... tons of stuff to see and so much history.

One of my younger sisters went to college at BU, so spent a bit of time visiting over the years.

She worked as a cocktail waitress at "The Rat" when she was going to College and has tons of stories to tell from that time. Wink

Will you be relying on public transportation or renting a car? If you have a car, it makes seeing things like Cape Cod, Lexington, and Concord a lot easier. There’s is still a sh**tload of things to do around the commons though. A lot of shopping there.

He should definitely not rent a car. Get a downtown hotel (should be no more than $150/night for a decent hotel), and walk. Key historic sites downtown are very accessible on foot, and even places like the JFK Library are fairly accessible by public transit.

What they say about Boston drivers is true... so yeah maybe he should only rent a car if planning on visiting sites outside of the City proper.

I would definitely agree with this. Driving in Boston was one of the most horrific travel experiences I've ever had. Do not rent a car BRTD!

Go to the aquarium, eat at a restaurant near there, and check out the Museum of Science as well.

The aquarium was the last thing I saw there. I really enjoyed it.

A car rentals in Boston aren’t cheap. There’s that. It’s just that there’s a lot of really good roast beef in the countryside and a lot of museums and parks adjacent to the city but you could probably do the commons and old city one day and maybe the aquarium the next.

I was going to make a crack about finding some good local emo there since that is presumably the only reason you travel, but that actually is the reason you're going.

Which is what makes recommending anything for BRTD an impossible task.

Forgot about how the prices of car rentals has gone through the roof since COVID and industry supply chain shortages...

But still I went on Priceline and if BRTD were to rent a car starting Tomorrow in Boston and return it on 11/1/21 (Allowing him to Goth Out on Halloween in the very active Bar Scene) he could actually get an economy or compact car for only $22-23 / day.

It was like 100 for 24 hours when I was there for an interview 5 years ago.

You paid a sucker rate, then. The reason to not rent a car for a weekend in Boston is not because it's expensive, but because a car is simply inconvenient and unnecessary for that kind of trip. You have to pay for parking, navigate unfamiliar streets, waste time getting in/out of parking garages, etc. And forget about drinking.

Boston or even New York parking isn’t that bad compared to Chicago.

Mrs. Grumps and I love Boston.  Visit it often.  Enjoy, but I'd check out the precinct results.  I wouldn't be surprised if the North End voted Trump.

Damn I just realized (while booking things now) that Sunday morning before the show I could actually attend a hipster church stoned! (I've never done this at mine because I drive there.)

I totally need to look up hipster churches in Boston!

Hopefully you will experience the real s**t as opposed to the bunk crap, which you have been experimenting with in States with non legal herb.

Side effects and medical impacts are still very well unknown, so hopefully if you want to get stoned you can hit up a real Pharmacy before the show (Should be plenty of them floating around in Boston) even if you have to take the "T".

Old folk Rock Song from Boston from a band which played a major role in the folk revival of the late '50s / early '60s.

Don't get stuck in the MTA without cash in hand!!!
